Visual Installer, Crystal Reports, and common start menus.
I've got a few issues with Windows Visual Installer, perhaps someone can
out. I'm running Visual Studio 6 with Visual Windows Installer installed to
generate the packages.
1. Is there a general how-to guide somewhere? I've seen lots of do***ention
talking about setting all sorts of variables, but how in the world do I get
into the script (in Visual Installer) to actually do that..... is SO beyond
me. For example, I
want to set the install to put the shortcut not in the Users Start menu but
in the Machine (All Users) startmenu. I can't for the life of me find out
how tro do that. MSDN library says to set a flag but where/how is this flag
set I don't have a clue. I must be missing something with the basic interdev
Please don't refer me to :
it does me absolutely no good. Sure it gives me all sorts of parameters to
set - but where are these set? Is there a script somewhere? How do I get to
2. Crystal reports. I get an error on a component called 'Crystal'. Now I
did find an article at the crystal support site which was right on point,
but it did nothing. I can't seem to find an MSM for Crystal Reports (v7),
and so I've had to go in and just select a much of Crystal files and hope
for the best. Either I need a proper MSM or I need to set that 'Crystal'
component up properlly with dependancies (editing .DEP files?) once so it
will continue to work.
Now I don't know if my package fails on sscsdk32.dll like the article
suggests - it fails on 'Crystal' like the article says but on which
particule file... I have no idea.
Man - just a real good indepth "How To" guide would be great - it's
how difficult it is to get an simple answer. Try finding out how to put in a
shortcut for all users on the start menu.... this article below seems to be
the closest thing I can find... but I have NO idea how to execute it's
instructions. Where are these properties? How do I set them? In what screen?
etc. etc. etc.
Gee, can you tell... I'm pulling my hair out here.
