I want to enable an existing asp.net intranet order tracking
application I've created so that I can display or lookup existing
contacts in Exchange 2003/Outlook 2003.

1. Can this be done using vb.net?
2. Do I query/access the information using ldap?
3. Where's the best place to start regarding a programming reference
or examples?

I suggest you to use WebDAV protocol. For your ASP .NET application will be
good solution

Are you talking about contacts stored in Active Directory or contacts stored
in a public folder or mailbox?

If you talking AD contacts then you can use LDAP and System.DirectoryService
namespace in VB.NET or if your talking contacts stored in a mailbox or
public folder then you can use WebDAV and the System.NET namespace in
VB.NET.

The best place to start with programing referances and samples is the
Exchange SDK which you can download from http://msdn.microsoft.com/exchange
there are plenty of .NET samples in there.

Good question, and I really don't know. I'm an Exchange/Outlook newbie
so I don't have any depth regarding where and how things are stored.

In conjunction with this project, we're also looking at streamlining
how our organization and employees store contact information. That's
another area where I'm green.
