Hey everyone,

I have a issue with a Windows NT 4 terminal Server running
SP6. I have Metaframe 1.8 for NT running on this server
also. It is Compaq DL380. There has been no new hardware
installed on this server, and all the hardware has
previously worked.

What is happening is that whenever i start up my server
(in any mode vga, last know config, etc) it get to the
windows splash screen and sits there. I initially thought
it was trying to load some services or devices, so i left
it overnite and still nothing. I have tried disabling
services (using the recovery console), with no success. I
am lost. I cannot figure out why it is doing this.

Can anyone please help.

Hey Invisible,

Well i have taken a Ghost image of the server and and
putting it back onto identical hardware, except for lager
disks (original was 9.1 gb hardware mirror - new disks
18.2 gb hardware mirrored).

So let me get this straight... you took a Ghost image of one server and put
it onto another identical server? And the new copy does't work, but it
worked on the original server? Is that it?

As weird as it sounds yes that is exactly it. Wheni say
the servers are identical i mean to the almost sequensial
serial number. They have same hardware configuration.

The system will boot. It gets a msg about some scheduled
tasks that have not run and sits there hung.

You need to know that NT sets up using hardware specific
references; MAC addresses, CPUID, etc.

To NT, the new server is NOT identical. This is one of the
major improvements with the newer servers.

Not only that, I would imagine both servers now have the same NT SID, which
is probably why they won't play together on the same network... (Isn't there
some MS utility to fix this?)

I understand what is being said, and i hav already
considered this. So when i boot the server it make sure it
is not on the network. My issue is i cannot actually log
into the server to make any changes. If i coudl iw ould
fix all this. Is there a way to make changes like ip
address, computer name, sid without actually logging in?

Hi Invisible,

I don't know of a MS tool to change the SID. there probably is one in the NT
resource Kit, but seeing they expect money for it (and it isn't available
anymore anyway) I always going looking for public domain tools that acheive the
same aim.

There is a really nice SID management/change tool made by Systems Internals

It is GUI based and looks very straightforward. I don't know how well it works,
I haven't yet been presented with an opportunity to 'use it in anger'. Have a
look at it when you get a chance.
