Does anyone know how to exit windows and load back to the command prompt in
dos from windows xp??

There is no 'DOS' in the Windows NT product line.

There is a 16-bit DOS Emulator, 'command'
There is a 32-bit DOS Emulator, 'cmd'
There is a DOS-like 'Recovery Console' on the Windows XP CD.
Boot on a DOS floppy if you really need DOS.

Click on Start, Run, and then type CMD in the prompt. Then click on OK. To
get back to Windows, at the system prompt, type EXIT.
