Which is the best way to archive old mails in Pegasus
I can't now remember how I did it, but I have another mailbox attached
to my main mailbox ( Pegasus 3.12C ).
This can be set to point anywhere you like, though I keep mine within
the Pmail hierarchy ( i.e Pmail/archives ).
In normal use I keep this mailbox encrypted - it shows up on the
Pegasus folder management window as a mailbox, but with nothing in
it..
Every so often I decrypt it, fire up Pegasus and shift all my old
emails into it.
If you're using Identities ( by which I mean you click on Change User
to access them ), you will have to close down Pegasus and reopen in
your chosen identity in order for the archive to function properly.
As regards folder names, I set up a separate main folder for each
identity, and I have had no problems using sub folders that are named
the same as sub folders within the other Identity hierarchies...though
I've subsequently amended this, as you'll see...
For example:
/ID1
/my friends in
/ my friends out
/ID2
/my friends in...etc
There are a few anomalies with this system - the directory structure
seems to break down for all the other Identities you're not logged in
as, but it all comes back together when you log off and log on again
in another Identity. I haven't ever lost an email.
It doesn't do any harm to prefix every folder with a few letters that
tie it to a specific ID...you only need to do it the once and it's
done. It's probably unnecessary, but it's a great deal less scary when
you see how the hierarchy goes to pot for the ID's you're not logged
in as! For example...
/ID1
/ID1 my friends in
I suggest you set up a similar arrangement and try it out for a while,
copying the messages over rather than moving them.
Try accessing folders when you're 'out of identity' and see what
happens.
Someone here should be able to tell you how to attach a new mailbox.
It's a bit of a crappy setup really, but it works - and I'm quite
prepared to change it if anyone comes up with a better method.
Not as far as I'm aware.
I use the Pegasus format.
Hope you get all that, it's a bit Heath Robinson....
Regards,
