The subject was hard to think of for this question. First let me explain
my problem. I am running the latest version of XP operating system with all
updates except IE7. In the past 2 or 3 weeks when I open internet explorer,
about 90% of the time I get the screen that says cannot find server. If I
refresh the screen it opens the site fine. System does this a lot between
sites and sometimes when retrieving email it gets an error when I retrieve
my mail from my MSN account. Anyone have any suggestions on what settings I
might look at? I do not run any add on software to my OS.
My system is a P4 600mhz 250gb drive and 4gb memory. Thanks for any
advice.

Hi Bill,
It doesn't mean you don't have Add-ons or third party software on your
system that you will not get the nasty stuff?.
You just need to be on the internet for a two menutes without protection
software and your computer get bogged with spywares and viruses.
Try to clear your caches, delete Internet files and cookies on the IE
properties.
1- The best is to scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan
http://www.trendmicro.com
And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-...e_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow your browser been
hooked by Add-ons or Plug-ins which act as an ear/spy for that site to direct
you to where they want you to go.
On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Networking and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
click Advanced Tab and scroll down to Browsing Options and uncheck this box:
[ ] Enable Third-party browser extensions ( Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there
Disable
the Non/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.
Reboot your machine.

2- Open a Run command and type this:
Click Start >> Run >> Type in : netsh winsock reset click [OK]
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK] and then Reboot your machine.
If you want to resfresh and repair your winsock download this winsock fixer:

3= If all fail download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.
Please perform one step (1,2,3) at a time and see if that will help your
issue.
