Default Editing DVD video

I'm new at this so please be gentle.

I have converted a whole family collection of video tape, via a DVD
recorder, to DVD format. My intention is to now edit much of this
material ... trim, ad some background music here and there, fade
in/out, etc. I've found that most of the editing software (Adobe
Premier, Ulead DvD Movie Factory, Pinnacle Liquid Edition) appears to
be geared for editing AVI, MPEG, etc. but not DVD format. Do I need to
convert all my material to edit it and then convert back, or is there
good software available for editing DVD material directly ... with
reasonable sofistication?

Thanks.

This is a Pocket PC group, so probably not the best place for your
question. However DVD video VOB files are basically MPEG2 files, and
I'd have thought that recent video editing packages would be able to
edit them. A quick google suggests for example that the first program
you mentioned, Adobe Premiere, can open VOB files if you simply change
the extension to MPG (you'd have to copy the VOB to your hard disk
first obviously).

Read the link below, videohelp.com is a great resource for this kind
of thing.
