apparently WMP 9.0 on Pocket PC 2003 does not play MPEG.

you can use PocketTV Classic (free from http://www.pockettv.com ).

Do you know what formats WMP 9.0 on Pocket PC 2003 does support?

What is the WMV file format? Is it an open or published standard?

Thanks,
John

WMV, ASF.

WMV is Windows Media Video, Microsoft's answer to Quicktime and several
other MPEG4 codecs. It's not open, and I don't know what you mean by
published, but the encoder is free from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia

I downloaded and installed Windows Media Encoder. I give it a vob file
(previously ripped from a DVD that I own) and I set it up to convert
to PocketPC Widescreen.

It didn't complain about the vob file, but when it started to encode
it complained that it couldn't find a codec to read the file.

Should it be able to read vob files? If not, what should I convert the
vob to and with what tool? Thanks! John
