Default Do I need Internet Access for GPS

I am considering a HTC Advantage, and am trying to get an idea of how
the GPS works in general on any phone.

If I'm in the car, and I want to constantly see my position, do I need
to have Internet access, or just WIFI? Or, can I "dial" into the GPS signal?

I'm not really sure how it works. If it works off a signal that is
constantly in the air, then I guess I don't need to subscribe to s
service, but thats what I don't KNow.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Chaz

The HTC Advantage has a built in GPS chipset, so you don't need any
sort of internet connection to get GPS data.

GPS is like an FM/AM radio. The signals are just in the air for free. If you
have a receiver, which the advantage does, you get them. Note that GPS does
cover the world, though buildings, metal, weather, etc can impede the
signal.
