Hi

All has been well until tonight. 8 months of syncing fine. tonight, I put
in my ppc and Active Sync does not recognise that the device is connected.

Power is there, battery charged fine

I changed the usb port and a new device was recognised but Active Sync still
did not recognise the device was in the cradle.

I deleted the partnership hoping ACtive sync would start another but it
hasn't. I tried to force it to and it can't find it.

Help! Please!

I have seen this happening sometimes with different users.

In most cases, just changing the USB port to which the Pocket PC is
connected solves the problem.

Hi Helio, thanks for the reply. I have now tried it in every usb port I
have on my computer and on each one I immediately get the 'new device on
usb' and an acknowledgement that the device is now configured.

However, Active-Sync still thinks the ppc is not connected.

Any other ideas? Should I try to re-install Windows XP in case Active Sync
is corrupt?
Is there any way in which I could check the cradle in case the data lead has
broken?

Might take a look at the help ramblings on my site at

I've had good luck with the steps shown to remove the ppc USB device
from the device manager, but there are also other issues such as
installations which replace items that activesync assumes are a certain
version.

The "GetConn" is also a good troubleshooting guide that provides solid
clues to repost here if you still avoid success.

Also, Chris's site at http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/ is probably the best
"one stop" place to dig for activesync solutions.

Hi Beverly, thanks for trying to help me. I have followed the instructions
about removing the ppc from device manager. When I put the device back on
the cradle and turned it on, the new device was recognised on the usb and I
got a confirmation that it was OK and then it recognised it as a ppc. But
active link still thinks the thing isn't connected.

I take your point about always using the same usb but I hadn't moved it when
I started having problems. I tried the other ports in case the original one
had a fault.

Any more clues?

The exact contents of the "Get connected" result dialogue box would
help... the wording is important.

In addition, there is a USB status message on the connection settings
screen.

Knowing these will at least help to eliminate some of the many
possibilities.

The usb is reported as being available and the error message is 'your device
was not detected'.

I'm about out of ideas, but it sounds like something is interfering with
the transport.

First;

Which ppc (make/model) are you using?

Which version of activesync?

Does anything else access the usb port on the ppc? (cellular data, etc)


A couple of obscure items, then I'm on empty.

On the ppc,

activesync/tools/options

Is the computer name absolutely correct (no spaces, etc?)

tap "options"

is "enable sync" checked and usb selected?

Beyond that, over the years, there have been postings on
installs/updates/etc removing or replacing several files critical to the
AS transport... I don't really know them so it's back to Google and
Chris' site.

OK, so now I am really confused. I put the device in the cradle tonight to
recharge and I was going to attempt the things you suggest in your post
tomorrow morning. As soon as it was in the cradle, Active Sync came up and
started syncing. As I had deleted the partnership, it went through that
wizard and started to sync.

However, I was a bit worried as it was syncing hundreds of items and I
hadn't added that much over the last few days. I let the syncing go through
and then had the stupid idea of deleting the partnership so I could try to
make it set up the partnership again to make sure it set up a partnership
with the data I already had.

Guess what? Active Sync stopped working! I don't know why it started to
work and I don't know why it has now stopped. Liz
