The idea of the PMC is yes, that's exactly what you can do.

What you can actually transfer of course depende on the licence with the
video - it may not actually be specified to copy to a PMC, so in that case
you can't.

In general I deeply dislike the whole concept and application of DRM. This
is another possible example of why not to use it - if the DRM provider
didn't ********ly allow you to copy it, by default it's denied. So your
current licence may not cover any future devices not identified in the DRM
licence for example.

As additional information.

If the license with the video is allowed to copy PMC , there will one
problem.

It is that when you use WMP10's 'SYNC File' function , it usually tries to
alter the quality of the video to suit the PMC.
It does this by "transcoding" (re-encoding) the file.
As you know DRM Protected video can not be re-encoded , so transfer will
fail .

To avoid this problem ContentsProvider should take care.
It's worked for me when I used this profile for encoding the videos before
encryption:

Thanks

That's right, good call - though the transcoding will only be attempted if
the media player decides the content is beyond the capabilities of the
portable device (ie screen resolution, audio or video bitrate and so on).

I understand the PC media player and MTP on the device negotiate what it's
capable of doing, and transcoding starts if the content is larger than the
screen size (320x240) or the bitrate is too high for the PMC to sustain.

In all these cases, you should be looking for either non-DRM content, or
content DRM'd and specifically labelled 'for portable media center' so it's
been pre-converted for the player.
