Default 'server threw an exception' error during synch

Hi,

I just upgraded my operating system from windows 2000 sp4 to windows XP sp2
so that I can install WMP10 (ver 10.00.00.3646). I have a desktop with
windows xp sp2/wm10 and I've been able to synchronize music/video to my
Creative Zen media player fine, but on this recently upgraded laptop, I am
getting 'server threw an exception' error. I read the knowledge base
article about the problem possibly being a decoder problem, but I can view
the *.mpg (mpeg2) files fine on the WMP and I've checked the decoder with
the decoder checker and I have atleast one of the recommended decoder
(intervideo video decoder (inivideo.ax) ver 6.0.6.42). Also, the same *.mpg
file synchs on my desktop.

I tried using the Windows Media Encoder 9.00.00.298 to convert the file and
I also get an error (see below).

AppName: wmenc.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2980 ModName: quartz.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2180 Offset: 0002e61b

I also have a Pocket DVD Wizard 2.7.1 which allows me to convert *.avi/*.mpg
to *.wmv and this software also gives me problems on my laptop (but works
fine on my desktop). It also errors out with the quartz.dll problem. I
have attached the error file that was generated with the pocket dvd wizard
(1134_appcompat.txt).

I am thinking my problem lies with the windows media encoder 9.0, so I've
tried uninstalling WMP10, WME9, and pocket dvd wizard and installing again,
but I still have the problem. Do you have any suggestions on what I can try
to remedy my problems? I hope I do not have to reinstall windows XP (clean
install). Thank you for your support!

Kyu,

When you run the Video Decoder Checkup Utility, make sure the Intervideo
decoder is selected as the "Preferred Decoder". If it's not, the utility
lets you do this (just highlight the desired decoder and click the "Set as
Preferred" button.

This determines which decoder WMP 10 will use when transcoding your MPEG2
files. Some decoders work fine for local playback, but don't work well for
transcoding.

Hi David,

I have Intervideo decoder is selected as the "Preferred Decoder", but it
doesn't work. I've also tried with other decoders as the preferred decoder,
but that didn't help either.

thanks,
Kyu
