Default Browser Hijack - VKYOK and about:blank

I have two problems (similar results for both of the
problems). First computer's internet homepage changes to
about:blank. The second computer's internet homepage
changes to VKYOK.dll.

Both pages are the same - a windows logo on the top left,
and then just a list of links for ad sites.

I've run Norton System works and Norton Virus Scan
(seperately on both computers) and it doesn't find any
virus's. I've run ad-aware - and it finds bad registry
keys and ad programs running (coolwebsearch), but every
time I delete them they come back.

Has anyone around here had this problem before and found
an answer? I did notice it doesn't happen when I start
up in safe mode.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

David Lewis

I have exactly the hijack about:blank with numerous pop
ups and have been trying to fix it for a while.

Microsoft is helping me right now but so far not quite
succesful. But make sure to update your ad-aware right
now and run a scan after. I am sure you will find the
problems. It has not cured it totally though since it
came back to plague me but I will let you know after
hearing from the guys at MS. There must be many other
steps. I tried downloading special programs on
spywareinfo but I cannot access the site. Seems like my
malicious infection is a step ahead of these solutions....

Google is your friend; Or should I be saying MSN Search Service is your
friend. ;-)

CoolWebSearch is well known spyware, and there are numerous sites that
discuss it and how to remove it. Here are a few of them, but from what I can
see it can be a real b*****d to remove.
