Hello,

We want to distribute a software package on a CD using SMS. However we do
not want the MSI to be installed on any computer. We have thought about
using the somthing like WINZIP to secure the MSI. This would involve running
two SMS jobs, 1 to unzip and copy the MSI into the SMS cache directory and
the other to run it.

Has anyone got any better ideas? or done this already?

Dear James,

Thank you for posting.

Do you use SMS 2003 with advanced client? If so, you can use the following
steps to meet your requirement:

1. Right click on the adverti*****ts that you had created choose
"properties"
2. Click "advanced client" from the tab.
3. Choose the option of "Download program from..." in the dialog.
4. Click "shcedule" from the tab to set the time you want to the packages
to run.
Then when an advanced client connect to the site server, it will download
the packages to its cache folder first (using BITS)
When the scheduled time had met, it will run from its cache folder
automatically.

If you are using SMS 2.0 or SMS 2003 with legacy client, I am sorry that we
do not have much to do.

Thankyou for your help, we are running SMS2003 with the advanced client .
However the package we wish to distribute is over 500mb and most of our
users are dial-up so that method just wont work.

Do you have any other ideas?
