Default Remote Agent Not Starting

Hello

We have an issue with SMS 2003 in that it is installing the clients etc, but
Remote Control is not working.

From the SMS Admin Console we are getting the error message that the remote
agent can not be found.

When looking at a client

Control Panel > Remote Control

We can see that the Advanced Client is installed but when clicking on the
"Show Status" button we are receiving the following error message

"Cannot display current remote control status. The remote control agent
service is not started"

We had SMS working fine for a couple of months and then all of a sudden it
has stopped working. We have reinstalled the applicaion, and are still
getting to the same point. No network changes have been made.

Please some one advise on a check / fix for me please

Hi Gareth,
Please check in the "System Management" on your client control panel to see
if the SMS Remote control Agent has a Status of "ENABLED" in the Components
Tab. the way SMS 2003 works is that it installs all the components but only
if the Policy enables a Feature it will activate it.
also check to see if you got the SMS remote control service started.

If you reinstall your SMS server again that might be a problem.

Hi Gareth,

Sounds like your problem are with your MP (Management Point) on your SMS
server, the client isn't downloading the policy regarding Remote control.

SMS client installation works this way:

1.. Capinst.exe runs or ccmsetup.exe checks to see the client OS and the
if it falls under the boundaries of the SMS site server.
2.. If it does the client installs all the SMS components.
3.. After that the client checks with the AD\SLP\WINS to find out which
server holds the MP rule in the site, and try to get the site policy from
the MP.
The problem that you might have is:

1.. MP information isn’t published under the AD system management
container (if you got AD) or isn’t publish in WINS.
2.. The MP isn’t working properly, IIS problems security problems.
Check your SMS System status for any errors on the matter.

Hope this Helps

Oren

This is what i was thinking as well

I have re-run the mp.msi on the server again. It does seem that the policy
is not being passed through the system. Is there away of using the Policy
Verifier to check the policy??

I have inputted most of the details needed for this but i need the Policy ID
and Version. Do you know where i can find this????

Any other ideas would be appriciated

Gareth
