Default uninstallation of updates

Hi at all,

I am wondering why updates which cannot be uninstalled using wsus can be
uninstalled by using control panel-->add/remove programs.

Is there any good reason for this? Which method is most likely to uninstall
the updates if I do no want to do this by uninstalling the updates at every
single pc manually?

Thanks in advance
Sebastian

Have a look in %windir%. There are many directorys named like:
$NtUninstallKB*****$. In this Directory you find a Uninstall Directory:
spuninst within a spuninst.exe.

Default uninstallation of updates

Hi Winfried,

sorry, but I think we misunderstood each other ;-)

I know about the way to uninstall an update manually using the spuninst.exe
but I just wanted to know why the uninstallation process cannot be triggered
by WSUS even if the update is uninstallable locally.

Think of a situation where you have to uninstall a specific update on
hundreds of client computers. I do not want to visit each computer und
uninstall the update using spuninst but it would be much more useful if I
could use the uninstallation feature provided by WSUS.
Unfortunately I cannot uninstall updates using WSUS although uninstallation
does not seem to harm systems in any way. Otherwise MS would not provide the
way to uninstall exactly the same updates using spuninst, would they?

I am just interested in the reason for this difference.
In my opinion it is not really satisfying to use WSUS for rollout and to use
another client management system like SMS or NetInstall an so on... to get
the updates uninstalled.

Thanks again.
Sebastian
