| Hi Bill,
|
| I specified the ftp folder exactly in the manner you had
| suggested to. But I still getting the same error. Is it to
| do with starting of the SQL Agent ?
|
| My publisher is started by the domain administrator. While
| my subscriber is started by a domain user.
|
| The FTP folder has the requisite rights (everyone-full
| control). And as I told you earlier i am able to browse
| via Internet Explorer. And I am also able to connect to
| the publisher via query ****yzer.
|
| I had gone through BOL for "Configuring a Publication to
| Allow Subscribers to Retrieve Snapshots Using FTP". But I
| did find one descrepancy between what was said in this URL
| (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Program%20Files\Microsoft%20SQL%
| 20Server\80\Tools\Books\replsql.chm::/replimpl_4cq8.htm)
| in BOL and my SQL publication property.
|
| In BOL, its mentioned that I will be able to select Allow
| snapshots to be downloaded using FTP on the subscription
| option tab in publication properties. I am not able to
| find any such label in my publication property. I am using
| SQL 2000 with SP 3 by the way. Is this some error in BOL
| or am I doing something incorrectly ?
|
| Thanks once again!
|
| Regards,
| Manish.

Default Error using Merge Replication via FTP

Hi Manish,

Could you set the startup account of SQL Server, SQL Server Agent services
on publisher, distributor, subscriber computers to the domain administrator
to avoid permission issue? Remember to restart SQL Server and SQL Server
Agent after doing that?

| Hi Bill,
|
| I have given Everyone Full Control to the
| \MSSQL\REPLDATA\FTP. This is on a Windows 2000 advanced
| server. And this is where the publisher is. The SQL Server
| agent at the publisher is started by the domain
| administrator. What I mean by the domain administrator is,
| the Windows "administrator" login. This is the
| administrator of the entire domain. I hope I am making
| myself clear here. In case, you have any doubts, I can
| explain it to you with a scenario.
|
| At present my subscribers login to the same windows
| domain. The SQL Server agent at the subscribers start via
| a normal windows domain account. These users have access
| to the folder via normal network access and via FTP.
|
| Given this scenario, replication fails.
|
| Can you please tell me as to what the problem might be ?
|
| Regards,
| Karthik.
