SP4 erased many system files on my computer. I had to
repair the Windows Instal before SP4, TWICE. Now
randome .dll’s are missing and I do not have the
administrator rights to install new hardware or view the
security log. Just leting everyone know.

SP4 is running on my server and laptop with no problems whatsoever.

Works very well for my machines. No problems at all. Very smooth install.

I tried the express install and got the dreaded
ntoskrnl.exe (blue screen). Lucky I had Goback 3 and
recovered at re-boot.
I had different error about 1 week ago trying to get the
update and internet explorer ask me to send the error
report. I did. I got a reply after they looked at my
Windows Update Log file. They told me to turn off my
Firewall, Anti-Virus and set the security in the explorer
to medium or low. Another words no Security.
I am a little nervous about this SP4. Has anyone else
disabled all the items above and had success with Express
or the Downloaded version?

The same darn thing happened to me. I download the
update – Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and about 20 files
disappeared. On the advise of MS Rep., I removed the
UPDATE and 17-18 of the files were recovered. SOME are
still missing because I can not DOWNLOAD any games when
playing on POGO site. I dont know what to do next. Any

You’re trying to install a service pack without administrator rights? I
wouldn’t expect that to work at all.

The SP4 readme recommends
3_installing_service_pack3_zutf) disabling real-time virus checkers. For
more instructions, please see the general SP4 site and the readme:
In general, disable real-time antivirus software when installing patches and
service packs. Aside from merely annoying false positives, antivirus
software can interfere with installation. When installation is complete
(including a reboot, if required), re-enable your antivirus software.
In order to use Windows Update, you may need to add Windows Update to your
Trusted Sites zone, assuming that the zone is set to Low security (or
similar custom settings). This is the default configuration for Windows
Server 2003. It is not necessary to decrease the security of Internet
Explorer for all web sites in order to use Windows Update.
If you have trouble downloading/installing software from Windows Update, we
sometimes recommend disabling firewall software, but only while using
Windows Update or to troubleshoot accessing Windows Update.
To answer your question, most Windows Update users are installing SP4
