I am having trouble selecting LINE INPUT as a sound source in my WINDOWS
MIXER. In WinXP, how is this done? There’s no speaker icon in the system
tray. I’ve tried Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
but I cannot find it. It was so easy in Win98. Can you direct me?

In the sounds and audio there is a little tick box to display the
controls in the task bar

Got that. Thanks.

Well, for one thing there is no path: start\settings in xp, but,
whatever. Go to Sound and Audio Devices and put a check mark in the
box where it says “Place volume icon in taskbar” and click Apply. This
will put the speaker icon in your system tray.

I think what he was referring to was not a path – it was selecting
Settings from the Start menu.. If you don’t have a “Start > Settings”
then you can get it by going to your “Display Properties” and under
Theme select “Windows Classic”. Then you’ll have a Start > Settings
