I didn't intend to go into the entire history of "the relationship" nor did I
wish the focus to be on that. My intention was for background and to get to
the root of a computer problem. To phrase it differently....how should I set
the computer to not delete any of those files?

Open IE and on the Tools selection, click on Internet Options. In the
General tab, and under "History", see what the setting is for how many days
before the history is cleared out. Also, in the "Temporary Internet files"
(center) click on Settings and check how much disk space is allocated to
storing temp files.

Another possibility is if you have multi-user setup, each configuration
could be different for each user. Then there are programs like Microsoft's
own TweakUI which can be set to clear out history and other files on a
selectable basis (i.e., after closing IE). There are many programs that do
this and may be hidden in the background at startup or run as a service.
Lot's of possibilities.
