Win Xp OS Volumn Control program

Hi, I'm Annie. I have an eMachine with Windows XP installed on it. My husband
was messen around on it and somehow screwed up the volumn. When I try to
access the Volumn controls says that, "The Volumn Control program is not
installed" and to access it I should go to add/remove programs and install.
Well thats not working. I think I need to download it or something, not real
sure?? I need help, thanks to anyone can help.
