Default XP Shutdown

Hi,

I have a new PC with XP SP2, which is new to me. When it shuts down, it
ends with a screen telling me it's safe to turn off the PC.

My PC, an Acer, doesn't have a button to turn off (only on), so at this
point I have to scrabble to the socket and unplug it.

Is there a way to tell windows to turn off the PC automatically?

Michael

That's unusual - check the bios and see if any of the power management
features are disabled

Try pressing and holding the power button in for 5-10 seconds and
see if the system shuts off then

I've seen this before.

Check:
1) Advanced power magagement settings in the BIOS
2) XP's power option settings within Control Panel

Yep.

Control Panel, Power. Go to the APM tab and check the "Enable APM
Support" or similar tick box, then apply-OK.
