Default write to disc with windows 2000

I have not had success in writing to disc with my windows
2000. The software for it is adaptec. I have had
discussions with the Dell technical staff and they tell me
it is a software problem.

I have gotten to the point in the process where it is
writing the file I want to the disc and at the point where
it is to finish, it gives me an error message and a prompt
to review errors but there is not tab to click on to
review the errors.

One of the suggestions from a Dell tech was to consider
upgrading the windows 2000 to windows xp. I am concerned
that I may be opening a can of worms if I decide to
update. That is, possible additional problems with erros
in running various software programs.

The advantage of xp as told to me is that it has a much
better software program for writing to the D drive disc

I also would like to know if there are any problems in
converting and updating from windws 2000 professional to
windows xp professional ( if that package is available)

Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated
