Default What "Use a proxy server for your LAN" setting means?

Hi All,

In IE Connection-->LAN_Setting Setting, can someone tells me what "Use
a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox means without setting Address
and Port (and if you click on Advance, everything is blank)? That's
how it's set in my work place.

Thanks,

Homer
