Default Error trying to run: services.msc

I get the following error messages when I try to run the services.msc:

Microsoft Management Console
The system encountered the following error while reading the list of
services on:

Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.

The O/S on the server is: Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP4

It doesn't matter how I try to view the services.msc, I get the same error.
I've tried the following and have received the same error each time:
Administrative Tools / Services; Computer Management / Services and
Applications / Services; Starting up MMC and adding in services.msc; etc.

This error occurred during the process of installing a software application
program used to backup SQL databases. After the program was installed (no
errors during the install process), I tried to startup up the program and get
it configured. I received an error indicating that the service for this
application was not running. This is when I tried to startup the
services.msc and first encountered the error. I have uninstalled the
application program, but the damage has been done. After an uninstall of the
application, the services.msc still generates the same errors.

No error messages appear in any of the event viewer logs (Application,
Security, and System). All of the other msc's appear to be working fine.
Only the services.msc is affected.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to fix this issue. Thanks for your
assistance!!!

Do you actually have the services.msc file in your System32 folder?

Yes, the services.msc file does exist in the System32 folder. I have also
copies the services.msc file from another server that is working fine, but I
still get the exact same errors.

Try restarting the box. Try creating a new one. Start|Run|mmc|File|Add
Remove Snap-in|"services"|Add|Local
