Default upgrade Win98 to Win2000 (different language)?

what happens if you try to do an upgrade install of Win 2000 English
over Win 98 German?
Since directories have different names, I would expect this is not going.
However, I recall at work, some IT consultant upgraded Win NT French to
Win 2000 English.
Perhaps the NT-2000 connection makes it, but Win 9x to 2000?

Dont upgrade, do a clean install. The o/s is radically different, it will
likely save you probs. Ensure your hardware is ok for win2k.

I once tried doing an upgrade from 98 to 2000. Trust me, it isn't worth
the hassle. You save more time doing a clean install, and your system
will run much better as well.
