for some strange reason, all my gif files now have a word
icon and will not open. It has changed about 500 files.
Can I make an association and change them back to regular
gif files ?? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You would be well advised to look for viruses first though, I think. This
does not happen on its own normally!

Hi,

You can change it by left clicking the file once to "highlight" it, then
hold down the shift key and right click the file. Select "open with..."
from the menu; a dialogue box will open with a list of programs to
choose from to open it. If you are certian of the program you want to
always open the file, then check the appropriate box and click ok. I
you're not sure, make sure that box is unchecked.

By the way, if you need an excellent and free image viewer and editing
tool, use Irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com. You can set the file
associations when you install it or at any time after.
