My Win98SE PC does not have a network card. I only make occasional
dialups to the internet. I have PWS installed so I can use MS
FrontPage

With [start][logoff] what does it log off of?

Even though I am logged on to something, in a DOS window, the NET
command tells me that I am not logged on.

Please help me to understand what logging on or off is about.

If you are not connected to any networks, when you click
on Log Off, it simply logs you off of the local machine.
You will then be prompted for a user name and password to
log back on to the local machine. If you were to connect
your computer to a network with a domain controller, you
would log on to both the network and the local computer
at the same time. Then clicking Log Off would Log you
off of both the network and the local computer at the
same time.
