Default determining whether updates have been applied

All values located underneath
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\W indows\WindowsUpdate
appear to parameters controlling when Windows Update will run & to which
server should be at attached.

The Add or Remove Programs applet underneath Control Panel does list all
updates which have been successfully installed.

What I would like to do within code is determine whether or not new updates
have been successfully installed. Is there something in the registry that I
have missed, or is there a way for me to access the update list in Add &
Remove Programs?
