Reading back NTBackup tapes
Here's a confusing one. We have a Windows 2000 machines which uses a
script to call ntbackup from command line to backup an oracle database
to an HP Ultrium. The logs generated from the script and ntback report
no errors and suggest that the backup was successful, but we can't
restore from the tape.
When we try to restore from the tape using the ntbackup GUI, from the
same server with the tape in the same ultrium drive, it just shows an
empty tape.
If we try to read the tape back on another Windows 2000 server with an
Ultrium drive . . . same problem.
But when we try to read the tape using NT backup from an old Windows NT
machine with an ultrium attached, ntbackup initially crashes, but then
see's the contents of the tape on a retry.
Does anyone have any idea's? At the moment we don't have any usable
backups for these servers, even though the data appears to be on the
tape.
cheers
