Default Hard disk capacity problem

I inherited a server at the school I teach at that shows a hard drive capacity of 14 gigs. My files and other material show a total of 2 gigs being used. The computer shows that I have only 300 megs left of capacity. Where is the rest of the capacity? How do I "open" it up? Thanks so much.

The operating system is probably installed on a 2 gB partition. You can
partition and format the rest of your drive from within Disk Administrator.
There are third party apps such as Partition Magic that allow you to expand
a partition's size. With Windows NT4 the end of the system partition needs
to be within the first 7.8 gB of the drive.

These may also help.

Note....

NT40 service pack 4 removed the 8 gig limitation mentioned below. With
service pack 4 and higher I have been able to recognize hard drives that
even the motherboard would not recognize (just don't try to boot from one).
As long as the motherboard can recognize the boot drive, NT will boot up and
as it does, its own 32-bit hard drive drivers take over and I believe they
will recognize drives up to 320 gigs, at least that is what the specs say. I
have not tried it with anything larger than 160 gigs.

You are so right. I am happy to hear someone finally come
forward and say what some of us have known for sometime
i.e. the limitations of NT4 are dependent upon the BIOS of
the motherboard and the hard drive drivers.
If you will refer to the knowledge base articles you keep
refering to, they reference this information in several
places.
In Knowledge Base Article 114841, it states "Because the
32-bit fields of the partition table refer to the number
of sectors in the partition, disks with larger sector
sizes translate into larger permissible partition
sizes....As new hardware or software schemes become
available, NTFS will be able to handle substantially
larger volume sizes."
Good job, Logan.
BTW, Dave Patrick, no offense, but 'irregardless' is a
double negative. I'm sure that you meant regardless.
