Hello Boys and Girls
I want to inform you about my updated udp multicast test (version 2.11)
program/software which now supports "source-specific-multicast" (ssm).
From a user's point of view ssm is about receiving traffic from only those
computers in which the receiver is interested in.
When multiple receivers are interested in the same traffic/source that's
where multicast/ssm could kick in and do it more efficiently.
Let's compare multicast models.
First the classic/normal model:
Multicast Sender A, B, C, D
Multicast Receiver 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Receiver 1 is only interested in A and C
Receiver 2 is only interested in A and B
Receiver 3 is only interested in A and D
Receiver 4 is only interested in B and C
Receiver 5 is only interested in B and D
Suppose they are all simply using one multicast group then traffic from
A,B,C and D will reach receiver 1,2,3,4 and 5.
Thereby completely flooding the network.
Now the ssm model:
Traffic from A goes to receiver 1,2,3.
Traffic from B goes to receiver 2,4,5
Traffic from C goes to receiver 1,4
Traffic from D goes to receiver 4,5
Sounds sweet doesn't it ?
Well sigh now then only thing I can do is wait until it's completely
supported over the internet hihi
