Be sure your BIOS is accessing this disk in LBA mode.

Check if your primary disk is first in boot order (take out media from CD
and floppy if you have set them to be used first)

Check if your disk has correct MBR code. Boot from MS-DOS system floppy ver
5.0-6.22 (visit www.bootdisk.com if you have not any) and use "fdisk /mbr"
command to replace code in MBR.

You can also run fdisk without parameter to check if partition activity flag
is set and if it is set to partition you want to boot from.

luck

Either FAT16 or NTFS.

If he is partitioning empty disk using NT setup or NT disk admin, he cannot
create incompatible partition format. However he can meet some problems if
disk is not empty before installation.

NT setup can access any FAT12, standard FAT16 and standard NTFS partitions
on disk as long as they are either primary or logical disks inside standard
extended partition chain (code 05). Unfortuantely, NT setup can create only
FAT16 partitions - this means that largest possible size of partition
created by NT setup is 4GB. All NT based systems are able to create and
maintain FAT16 partitions up to physical limit 4GB. However, in dual-boot
environment it is not recommended to break 2GB limit given by FAT16
specification.

To create better partition scheme, put disk as secondary to other computer
running windows NT (not W2K or WXP!) and use disk admin to create and format
partitions. Be aware about 7.8GB limitation for NT loader partition and be
sure you have prepared latest disk driver on floppy before installation if
you want to install NT OS to large partition. Do not forget to use F6 trick,
on new (and large) disks it is a must.
