Default Networking Win NT 4 and XP Pro

Hello,

I am having problems trying to network my Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with my
laptop running Windows XP Professional. Both systems have their necessary
components such as Network adapters perfectly installed.

Both computers are aware that they are connected to each other but, I cannot
see neither computer in My Network Places (XP) or My Network Neighbourhood
(NT 4.0).

When I ping both computers, I get an error message saying "destination
unreachable". I notice when I change the ip addresses to the same, there is
conflict which I consider positive, because, it shows they are connected to
each other.

Both computers have the same Workgroup, unique computer names, but still
unable to browse each other. So, what I want to know, does Windows XP Pro
not support networking with NT 4?

Thank you

Andre Paul Da Costa

Can you ping one from the other by name? What about net view
\\machinename ? Does that work?

If that works, check that they are in the same workgroup, or run the
network setup wizard on the XP.

I have found that XPs default network adapter settings (shared and
firewalled) can cause this. Go to My network Places, properties, right
click the NIC card, select properties, and turn off sharing and firewall.
This should solve the issue.
