Default Migrating SAN cluster and keep the original file server name and UNC

I am moving files from an old SAN cluster to a new one. But from the FSMT
release notes, Microsoft strongly recommends against using the quorum disk,
which is how my disks are setup. So now I am exploring my options.

I would like to:
1, keep the downtime to minimum,
2, keep the original UNC on the new server after files are migrated.

For the 2nd goal, can I do some WINS or DNS tricks without using the DFS
Consolidation Root Wizard, say two server names to associate with one IP
address? If I must use the Root Wizard, how to make the referral process
fault tolerance?

Thanks.

How many disks did the old SAN contain, how many for the new SAN? When I say
disks, I mean what the OS will see.

On the old SAN there were 4 quorum disks, on the new one there are 2.

I am migrating 2 disks from the old server to 1 disk on the new server, and
the rest don't involving keeping the old UNC name.

Thanks!

With only two disks you won't be able to follow several best practices. The
Quorum should be it's own disk from 500MB to 2 GB, I use 1 GB. Nothing
should be added to the Cluster group, but since you only have 2 disks, I am
not sure this hard best practice will be followed. Each service should have
it's own disk, again you won't be able to do this. Each service should be in
it's own group, but since they will share a disk, this can't happen.

Your design is far from perfect. Do the best with what you have

If at all possible, add disks!! Fast!

I am sorry that I am really confused, or that I have confused you.

2 disks (in drive letter form) are the source, 1 disk is the target that is
almost 900GB with many physical drives on the SAN cluster.

What we are trying to do is to migrate 2 shares on 2 Quorum disks that have
the same server name (\\fileserver\share1 and \\fileserver\share2) to the
new server on one Quorum disk (\\newfileserver\share1 and
\\newfileserver\share2).

Thanks!

I am still confused. You can only have 1 quorum disks - the drive where the
MSCS folder gets created.

Is it possible your confusing the Quorum disk with the regular data disks
that are on the cluster? Your Quorum disk should always be a seperate
dedicated disk...
