NT4 BDC in w2003 Domain Functional Level...
Hi Allen,
Thanks for your posting here.
As I know, Exchange 2003 does not need to installed in Windows 2003 Domain
Functional Level. You can even install Exchange 2003 in a Windows 2000
domain.
If you need furhter help about Exchange installation, you can also submit a
new post in our Exchange news groups to get more specific suggestions:
microsoft.public.exchange
microsoft.public.exchange2000.general
As for the Widnows 2003 Functional Levels, if you change to Windows Server
2003 mode, then the NT BDCs will not works properly in the domain. The
domain data in those BDCs will not be updated.

Subject: NT4 BDC in w2003 Domain Functional Level...

I have a W2003 Interim Domain Functional Level. I have a
couple of straggler NT4 BDCs in my Domain. It's probably
not even possible while the NT4 DCs are still there to
upgrade the Domain Functional Level to W2003. I would
like to upgrade the Domain Functional Level. If it does
let me, what kind of issues will the NT4 DCs have? I've
notived that the clients don't even authenticate against
them anymore. One of the NT4 DC is the old file server
and another one is running an accounting package. I can't
remove them from the Domain yet. I'm a little wary about
using 3rd party tools to demote them to member servers.
I have 2 W2003 DC controllers, and no trusts.
All clients are XP/w2k and OSx.
I want to install Exchange 2003, but have been dragging my
feet becuase I know Exchange wants to be installed in a
W2003 Domain Functional Level.
So that is my other issue, it is preferred but not
required that Exchange be installed in a W2003 Domain
Functional Level? The way public folders and security
groups may not be %100? What happens when you install
Exchange 2003 in Interim Domain and the when you can
upgrade to the W2003 Domain Functional Level? Can you set
Exchange 2003 to work correctly after? Thanks!
