We're facing a situation where we want to backup a snapshot made from a Sun
filesystem located on an iSCSI storage device. It would be instrumental if
it were possible to mount the snapshot on a windows machine and make a raw
data backup to tape from there.

Is this at all possible (wont windows object to the foreign file system)?
What would happen to different rights on files on the Sun filesystem?

I am not sure I follow your qestion.
If you windows machine is anthing later than W2K, you can install free iSCSI
initiator from Microsoft. Then you can hook it with your iSCSI target.
Or if SUN machine can export the shapshot volume as NFS share, your Windows
machine can find the way to mount it.
Besides, what kind of iSCSI target you are using? If it's a Windows based
machine, you should not have a problem for another Windows machine to access.
