Sata drives very slow unless IDE drives installed
I have built a new system with 2 Sata drives ( ASUS A8V-E Mobo, Athlon 64
3000 ).
With a minimum system the Sata drives are shown in PIO mode and no known (
Knowledge base 817472 refers, and others ) fixes have any impact. The system
is slow to boot and file transfers are impossibly slow, Sandra benchmarks
time out.
Adding an IDE drive and DVD drive to primary and secondary channels causes
device manager to show the Sata drives as matching the IDE drives IE: UDMA5
and UDMA2. Sandra Benchmarking shows all 3 drives as 48 - 50 MB/s and sytem
boots and operates as expected. I do not want to add redundant drives in
order to get it working correctly.
Any solutions please
Mike
