Remote Desktop locks Windows 2003 server

When I try to access one of my Windows 2003 servers from my XP Pro box it
locks up the remote session and then locks the server. The only way I can get
the server back is by hard booting the server.
Any ideas why this is happening?

What exactly do you mean by lock, does the session hangs and the server
hangs as well? Do you see any error in the event log? Does you machines have
all updates installed?
