I just know I have some virus or worm or something that is dragging down my
PC. I have done the basics Adaware, Spybot, AVG, cleaned temp files, but everything is still too slow about 10 minutes from start button until I can use a browser. I am using Firefox now, I had a brain fart last month and downloaded IE7 Beta, but must have some of it somewhere still. When I start Adaware the blue box comes up right away saying Initializing data and stays there for up to 20 minutes before you can check for updates. I haven't much time to do anything running this slow. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Bru Have you tried to replace IE7 with IE6 - I know you say you now have Firefox. Getting rid of that dreadful beta stuff can be a problem. Any errors come up on screen - anything in Event Viewer. What is running in Task Manager to slow things down. If no help received here and you think that IE7 is the cause, try below Newsreader group news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...plorer.general Web interface discussion group http://www.microsoft.com/communities...orer. general These are the main areas in which to seek IE7 help etc. which you might need. sorry to hear you're having trouble.
have you tried system restore? have you downloaded and run the most current windows malicious software removal tool? i'd suggest a full system scan. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en safety.live.com is a great online scanner from microsoft if you believe you have a virus/worm/trojan/whatever. i've found that the windows live protection scanner finds stuff other scanners don't. have you considered dumping ad-aware and spybot? replacing them with windows defender would be a good move. panda antivirus destroyed my system speed when i installed it...don't know much about avg, but you may have too many anti-whatever softs running. good luck! |

Run Defrag in Safe Mode, only--and always. See what the results are.
Also, go to www.Trendmicro.com and do a free scan. Run both of your spyware programs, as well before Trendmicro. Spyware Blaster and Ad Aware are excellent, but do them at LEAST every other day. Just for the heck of it, I clicked the boxes to be notified of "Cookies" and "Active X" and I'm in shock over the hundreds of pop-up warnings I'm receiving. In fact, once I refused to EVER accept either of them, the URL I'm in, including my medical professional group, only gives me blank pages. Well, they can all go to Hades in a hand basket. They get plenty of $ from me in dues, and the rest of the URLs can die a slow death. I'm not compromising my freedom in my own home. Hence, I now have Hushmail (www.hushmail.com). and still under trial.
