Default Windows explorer stuck in search view

Every time I open a folder, Windows explorer displays the search for files
screen. I just want a detailed list of the folder's contents. How can I
change this behavior? I've already gone through the folders... options
routines & tried resetting everything to Window's default ... didn't work.

Thanks, the default action was "explore," not "open."
Is there any place I can get a list of those commands and what they do?

Basically...
Explore opens folders with Folders pane on the left.

Open opens folders with common tasks showing on the left.

This all depends on a bunch of settings.

Hope this helps. Let us know.
