to follow up on the corrupt/missing file advice you gave me:
I did what you suggested witht the exception of slaving my h/d to a
different machine, instead I purchased a new, secondary h/d to be the master
drive and use the old one as storage once I get this mess figured out... the
new problem I'm encountering is the inability to open the programs that are
on the old h/d....I installed the new h/d and got Windows XP loaded
successfully. then I copy and pasted one program over as a test to see if I
could open and run it from the new drive and I get the error mess:
'C:\WINDOWS\microsoft.NET\Framework\v.1.1.4322\msc orwks.dll' could not
load'......when I did a search for the file in windows, it comes up. when I
try to open it, a dialog box pops up saying 'windows could not open the file
' and asks if I want it to do a search via the web to find out the writer for
the program....I'm a little confused as to why I get the C: drive as the
location for the file when I'm trying to pull it up from the D: (old h/d)
drive.........what the hell is up with this thing and can I fix it.....I'm
lost and am not sure if I can retrieve these files I need.....any help would
be greatly appreciated as you have helped me so much already

I am not sure I fully understand what you have tried to do here but you
cannot "Copy and Paste" programs, they have to be reinstalled to get
registry entries and such in the right places. It sounds like that is your
problem here. You can certainly copy and paste "Data" such as documents and
pictures, but if the program was installed on the old system (Which is now
not being used but still exists on the old drive) the new system you just
installed will have no clue where to look for other components that the
program needs.

Also, if a brand new installation, the first thing you should do is make
sure to visit the Windows update website and get that all fixed, it makes
less sense to install programs first since without some updates you are at
risk from malware.

Next time, keep your post about the same subject in the same thread. I have
no idea what the original question was or what you did. This is a very busy
newsgroup and while your problem is of course of paramount importance to
you, I'm sorry to say that I don't remember the details of every post I
answer.

Also, this particular post was *extremely* hard to read. I'm amazed that
Charlie could even distill anything from it. Next time use capitalization,
punctuation, and paragraph breaks. I'm not saying this to hurt your
feelings, but to help maximize your chances of getting useful answers.
