Default lost data after reloading windows

I was using windowsa XP professional howver encountered glitches. I was
recommended to reload windows. The only authentic copy I had available was
an older version without SP2. I proceeded to reload windows with this older
version but now have lost everything. Is there a way I can revert to the
previous system status or at least gain access to all my old files?

The only way that the older version could have been installed is if you
formatted your hard drive.
Do you only have one partition on the hard drive?
Using the drive will cause less of the old files to be recovered.

You mistakenly did a clean install before backing up your data. It is most
unlikely that you will be able to get the data back with generally
available data recovery software, although you can try. If the data is
crucial however, do nothing further on the machine and contact a
professional data recovery company. I prefer Drive Savers, but there are
others. These companies' services usually start at around $500USD and go up
from there, but only you can determine the value of your data.

Data recovery software:
R-Studio - http://www.r-tt.com/
Ontrack's EasyRecovery - http://www.ontrack.com/software/

Professional Data Recovery:
DriveSavers - http://www.drivesavers.com
Seagate Data Recovery Services - https://www.seagatedatarecovery.com/
Ontrack - http://www.ontrack.com
