caps to initial capped?

Windows will NOT let you rename the WINDOWS folder - I just tried.

There was no rt-click rename option nor did hitting F2 in Explorer with the
folder highlighted work.

near the top.

Stop trying.

In a computer-literal sense,
WINDOWS does not equal Windows.

That's why you can't change it. If you could,
which the system wisely will NOT allow you to do,
all your programs that search for necessary bits of themselves
in the WINDOWS directory will fail (assuming of course,
that you could even get to the desktop which doesn't
seem likely for the same reason).

If you really want to do this, you can reinstall, during
Setup you can name the system directory anything you wish.

Ahhh, "V Green" provided the correct answer.

Oh, you're talking about THE Windows directory, not A windows
directory.

The OS won't let you rename that directory, and for good reason.
Giving it a different name would bring your computer to a screeching
halt.

But you only want to change the case of the name, and that *should* be
harmless. No Windows OS or file system is case sensitive, so "Windows"
would be the same as "WINDOWS" as far as finding files. Hmm..maybe you
could boot from your Windows CD to do this. Or maybe it would be more
time and trouble than it's worth......

This has to be done using the recovery console executing the ren command with
the new name "Windows" in quotes.
