Cannot find any information on "w00cb878.dll" via a google search. It is
not a file name that I am familiar with so can't tell you what it's for. The startup message means that something is loading that wants that file and it cannot be found. Either it is missing or it is damaged. If you can figure out what that file is and what it belongs to, moving forward will be a lot easier. Event Viewer (one of the System Tools) may reveal more about where that file should be located or what application is looking for it. There may be a more complete path noted for the file, example: C:\Program Files\<program name>\w00cb878.dll If you find a more complete path and it leads to a program that you actually use, reinstall the program. If you do not use the program, uninstall it. If no leads on what the file belongs to, open the registry editor and search the RUN keys for that file name. When found, export JUST the key that includes that file name. Then delete the key. Restart the computer. If the error message is gone, you're done. If a program was depending on it, you'll probably see another error message about another file that is missing. If not familiar with working in the registry in this manner, stop. Instead, you could try msconfig or one of the startup manager programs such as the one found here: http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml Using one of these tools, disable startup programs (except for those that are needed to run your hardware properly). Restart to see if message is gone. If yes, add a program back to startup. Restart again to see if message appears. Repeat until you find the problem startup item. NOTE: This is an odd named file. It is possible that it was part of malware or a virus that was removed by your antivirus software or anti-spyware software recently. Check logs for those programs to see if you can connect the time that this error message started appearing with the removal of a nasty. Then look up the named offender at the relevant website (that of the antivirus program or the anti-spyware program) to see if there are further directions for manual removal. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
