Default Not recognizing drives?

Hi, for one reason or another my computer has suddenly stopped recognizing
any CD in the "D" or "E" DVD or DVD-RW drives. I just noticed the problem
while attempting to burn a CD in Windows Media but it seems to be universally
impairing my ability to burn, play music, load software, etc.

Sorry if my technical description is lacking, but I'd be glad for any ideas.

Hi Emily,

See if the information in this MSKB article helps you to resolve the
problem:

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error code 31, code 32, code 19,
code 39, or code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us
(please note that although the article references Easy CD Creator, there are
other third-party software packages that will cause the same "problem" to
occur).

If you don't want to manually edit the registry, you can d/load and run the
registry patch that is available here:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
(look at the second "problem")

Regards,
