Default Ethernet Connection Works With/Without Crossover Coupler ?

Hello,

I have a Cat.5e Ethernet crossover coupler, pins 1-3 connected, pins
2-6 connected, however my PC to 4 port switch connection works whether
or not I insert the coupler with an extra straight through cable. I
have verified coupler and cable wiring with a continuity tester. The
situation also applies for my laptop. I am however unable to get a PC
to laptop connection working using two straight throught Cat.5e cables
and the crossover coupler.

Any ideas ?

Thank you

Many recent network switches automatically sense what type of
connection each port has and can handle both straight and crossed
connections. For example, Netgear calls that capability "Auto
Uplink", as described here:

The Ethernet adapters on your computers can't do automatic connection
type sensing.

have auto pin sensing/selecting ? Why does the PC-laptop connection not
work (it starts to register, however no packets transfer, and then the
connection fails).

Any ideas ?

Thank you
