Default Silent Downloads?

Hello

Does anyone know if there is software that can 'watch' what is being
downloaded and tell you where it is coming from (or not let it happen).

Should include MS and Norton etc so that it says something like 'download
from Norton/MS) or ?? is trying to download ?? to your pc, do you want this?

Sorry if this is obvious, but a search online didnt show up 'reveal'
software, only blocking.

Many thanks for any help!

Antivirus and anti-spyware software does this.

No it doesnt. I have Norton 2006 and am reasonably PC literate. However,
today nearly 7Mb were silently downloaded onto my PC and whatever I did
(looking in temp internet etc) files, I could not see 'who' was doing it, and
Norton was silent. (and it wasnt Norton). The sort of thing windows and
norton do when they warn you about Java (and in somecases Eicon Diva) is not
what I am looking for.

What I am looking for is something where a small window opens and tells you
that ??? is trying to download ??? from IP? something like that. or URL or
other identifier (ping?). A variation on netwatch where you could see if
someone was trying to get onto your PC?

Hope makes sense!

I have used ZoneAlarm from www.zonelabs.com to do this for 8 months now -
hasn't let me down yet.
