Default this david gates' song from his first album (brother time)

Lost your copy of the old LP, right?

Almighty Nation what's this in the air
No explanation but still it is there
You hear the talk from the people you meet
To meet the people just go down on the street

And they believe He's comin'
Yes they believe He's comin'

So many people confused and afraid
Too many shy from commitments they made
The change of values and moral decay
The damn foundation is slipping away

But I believe He's comin'
Yes I believe He's comin'

Hey lighty-lie do you dare prophesy
Do you believe that the millions will die
A single nation encamped all around
And what will come if her knees hit the ground

Do you believe He's comin'
Dare not believe He's comin'

So now it's the time to get ready they say
The time of judgement is not far away
And if the meek shall inherit the earth
Look at yourself brother what are you worth

Do you believe He's comin'
Like I believe He's comin'
Do you believe He's comin'
Dare not believe He's comin'

Dare not believe!

Yup. I bought the LP (on casette actually as I was still in
school when FIRST came out and all I could afford was a small
casette player ) and played it many many times that year.
This song escaped me as the other more melodic ballads
on the album caught my attention.
But recently some Gates fanatic talked about this song in
his review of "david gates songbook" CD on Amazon.com
and I realize Gates wrote on religious topic too.
He's a genius.

Thanks for your help

You wouldn't have had the lyrics with the cassette then, would you. I
always had the LP, then I stumbled upon the cassette in a used shop
sometime in the '90s. The sound was so bad from that vintage tape that I
recorded the album from the LP on quality high-bias tape and then inserted
that into the cassette shell.

In 1997, I bought "First" as a German import on CD. It also has the lyrics
in the cover insert.

Sure wish somebody would release Bread's "Lost Without Your Love" album on
CD. That's about the only album I'd be willing to pay one of those services
that burns LP's onto CD's.
