Default 1974 Album Survivor, preliminary round, part 2 of 3 (may them)

Here are the matchups for the second part of the preliminary round of our 1974
Album Survivor game. The preliminary round has been split into three parts for
ease of voting and tabulating.

For this part of the prelims, you have up to 51 selections to make: for each
randomly-selected matchup, select your preference (the easiest way to do it is
to copy the text of the note and delete the selections you don't want). You do
not have to vote for each matchup.

Which albums should survive to move on to round 1? You may post your choices
(and any comments you wish to make) here or send them as e-mail to
AlbumSurvivor@aol.com .

The Miracles - Do It Baby
Wet Willie - Keep on Smilin'
Waylon Jennings - The Ramblin' Man
The Stylistics - Heavy
MFSB - Love is the Message (aka T.S.O.P.)
George Jones - The Grand Tour
Spinners - New and Improved
Dolly Parton - Jolene
Herbie Han**** - Head Hunters
Funkadelic - Standing on the Verge of Getting
Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night

This album probably should not be eligible. It's a compiled mix of a
1969 Muddy Waters album ("Fathers and Sons") and a 1971 Howlin' Wolf
album ("The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions").

My votes :

Peace On You is the worst Mc Guinn solo album no doubt so BADFINGER

I like the Neville Bros but Quark is a wonderful folk-blues record :
JORMA

A masterly orchestral work from Mc Laughlin and co. supervised by
George Martin : MAHAVISHNU

For "Train Kept A Rollin'" alone : AEROSMITH

The very first of Lizzy's excellent albums : THIN LIZZY

My favorite Sweet album : SWEET

"Next" is a Jacques Brel cover. Although the lyrics are really tame
compared to the original : HARVEY

Tough one. The Nuge has another, better album in the contest so : MAGMA

MARSHALL TUCKER BAND: Easily their best album

BADFINGER again

How do you compare such different records ? MILES

MOTT. I'm a fan but this is not a very good live album.

QUO. One of the very first album I ever owned. imo, their best.

Another tough one : PURPLE with what may be their last very good
record.

FOGHAT

I don't dislike Dolly Parton actually but BRINSLEY SCHWARZ are more my
kind of stuff.

HAN****. One of the few really great jazz/fusion albums.

PRETTY THINGS. A really excellent hard rock record.

"Kill Your Sons" is one of my favorite Lou Reed songs : LOU REED

Abstain on the others by lack of familiarity or interest.
